CCAT Retake: Rules, Technical Issues, and Requests
There is no universal candidate right to retake the CCAT.
The employer or authorized assessment administrator controls whether another event is allowed, when it can occur and how multiple results are interpreted.
A technical problem, disappointing performance, expired invitation or desire for more preparation does not automatically create another attempt.

Criteria’s candidate FAQ states that technical support can help with access and testing issues, while the employer controls deadlines, hiring decisions and assessment policy.
Who Decides Whether You Can Retake?
The organization that created the assessment event controls the decision.
It may be:
- the employer;
- a recruiter acting for the employer;
- an authorized assessment administrator;
- another organization administering the event.
Criteria candidate support can investigate platform or access issues, but it does not independently override the employer’s retake policy or hiring decision.
An independent preparation provider cannot authorise, issue, reopen, cancel or score a Criteria event.
Can You Retake Because of a Low Score?
Only when the employer allows it.
A candidate may believe that:
- too few questions were attempted;
- pacing was poor;
- a category was unusually difficult;
- preparation was insufficient;
- the result was below an expected target.
These concerns do not automatically invalidate the completed event.
Ask neutrally whether the recruitment process permits another authorized attempt. Do not present a practice score as proof that the official result should be replaced.
Technical Problems During the CCAT
A technical interruption may justify review, but it does not automatically guarantee a retake.
Record privately:
Event ID:
Date and local time:
Assessment name:
Device:
Browser and version:
Exact error message:
Connection status:
Whether the timer had started:
Last completed screen or question number:
Whether the event resumed:
Support case or employer contact:
Do not copy or describe secure question content.
Criteria advises candidates experiencing a problem during a test to use the support form with the Event ID. Contact the employer as well when the problem can affect the deadline or recruitment process.
Use the CCAT technical-problems guide.
What If the Event Appears Incomplete?
Do not create a new account or search for another public assessment link.
Where possible:
- reopen the original authorized link;
- check whether the event resumes;
- preserve the Event ID;
- contact Criteria support for technical assistance;
- inform the employer of the interruption;
- wait for authorized instructions.
The employer may decide to reopen, replace, review or retain the event. The candidate should not assume which outcome will apply.
Expired Invitation Links
Criteria’s candidate FAQ explains that Criteria cannot extend an assessment deadline set by the employer.
When the link or deadline has expired:
- contact the employer or recruiter;
- identify the role and original invitation date;
- ask whether the event can be extended or reissued;
- do not create a duplicate account;
- do not request a new event from an unrelated email address.
The employer controls the extension decision.
Missing Accommodation
Contact the employer before starting whenever possible.
If an approved adjustment does not appear:
- do not begin the timer where possible;
- record the displayed conditions without exposing secure content;
- preserve the Event ID;
- contact the employer or authorized administrator;
- request written confirmation before proceeding.
If the test has already begun, document the issue and contact the employer promptly. Do not assume that extra time can be applied retroactively, that the result will be cancelled or that another event will automatically be issued.
Use the CCAT accommodations guide.
Can You Retake for Another Employer?
A different employer can send a new Criteria event.
That is not the same as independently transferring or reusing an earlier assessment. Criteria states that candidate results are available only to the company that administered them.
Follow the new employer’s invitation and do not assume that:
- the previous result transfers automatically;
- the new employer can view another company’s confidential report;
- the same assessment will be assigned;
- one score remains valid indefinitely.
Retake Waiting Period
Criteria does not publish one universal waiting period applying to every CCAT candidate and employer.
An employer may choose:
- no retake;
- an immediate authorized replacement after a verified technical failure;
- a waiting period;
- a new attempt only for a later application;
- another assessment method;
- another stage of the hiring process instead.
Only current employer communication confirms the applicable rule.
Which Score Counts?
Do not assume that the employer uses:
- the highest score;
- the latest score;
- the first score;
- an average of attempts;
- a superscore;
- only one category result.
The employer’s policy and assessment configuration control how authorized multiple events are interpreted.
Duplicate Accounts and Unauthorized Attempts
Do not use another email address or identity to obtain an additional attempt.
Duplicate accounts can create:
- conflicting candidate records;
- identity inconsistencies;
- uncertainty about which event belongs to the application;
- an unauthorized second attempt;
- assessment-integrity concerns;
- delays in support investigation.
Use the original authorized event and contact details.
Practice Retakes Are Different
You can repeat independent practice material for learning. This does not create an official Criteria retake.
Repeated practice questions can inflate:
- speed;
- accuracy;
- attempts;
- raw score;
- confidence based on answer memory.
Use unseen material when measuring readiness. Read Are CCAT questions repeated?.
How to Request an Authorized Retake
Use concise factual wording:
I attempted the Criteria assessment for [role] on [date]. [Brief factual description of the technical, access or accommodation issue]. Could you please confirm whether the event was received correctly and whether the recruitment process permits an authorized retake or replacement event?
Include only relevant information. Do not:
- demand a retest;
- blame the platform without evidence;
- include secure questions;
- send medical information through an insecure channel;
- misrepresent practice results;
- create a replacement event independently.
Preparing for an Approved Retake
When another attempt is authorized:
- confirm the new invitation and deadline;
- verify the exact assessment name;
- check whether the Event ID has changed;
- confirm accommodations and device requirements;
- correct the technical or preparation issue;
- use unseen practice material;
- review pacing and category weaknesses;
- read the new live instructions fully.
Do not prepare by collecting, photographing or sharing recalled live questions.
Use the CCAT preparation guide, accuracy-versus-speed guide and test-day guide.
Does a Retake Guarantee a Better Score?
No.
Performance can vary because of:
- the question set;
- pacing decisions;
- concentration;
- category strengths;
- educated guessing;
- preparation quality;
- device and connection conditions;
- the approved accommodation setup.
Another event provides another opportunity, not a guaranteed improvement or hiring outcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I retake the CCAT?
Only when the employer or authorized administrator permits another event.
Does a technical problem guarantee a retake?
No. Document the issue and request authorized review.
Can Criteria extend my deadline?
Criteria’s candidate FAQ states that it cannot extend a deadline set by the employer. Contact the employer or recruiter.
Is there a universal waiting period?
No public universal waiting period applies to every employer.
Does the highest score count?
Do not assume that. Employer policy controls how multiple authorized results are used.
Can I use another email address?
Not to obtain an extra attempt. That can create duplicate records and integrity concerns.
Can another employer see my old score?
Criteria states that results are available only to the company that administered them. A new employer may issue a new event.
Will a retake improve my score?
Not necessarily. Another attempt does not guarantee improvement.
