CCAT Score Validity: Scientific Evidence, Event Integrity and Reuse

The phrase CCAT score validity can refer to three different questions:

  1. Is the CCAT scientifically validated as an assessment?
  2. Is one candidate’s result considered valid by the platform?
  3. How long will an employer accept or reuse a result?

These questions must not be confused.

Criteria publishes scientific validity information for its assessments and describes safeguards intended to protect result integrity. Current public sources do not provide candidates with a universal formula for declaring a CCAT result invalid. Criteria also does not publish one candidate-facing expiration period that every employer must use.

Scope of This Guide

This page separates three issues: evidence that the assessment measures job-related aptitude, integrity of one assessment event, and an employer’s decision to reuse an older result. These are not interchangeable. For retake decisions, use CCAT retake; for data sharing, use CCAT confidentiality.

1. Scientific Validity of the CCAT

Criteria describes several forms of assessment evidence, including:

  • construct validity;
  • predictive validity;
  • correlations with other cognitive aptitude measures;
  • validation studies connecting scores with job performance.

The official CCAT page states that correlations with other leading aptitude measures range from .55 to .8.

It also describes significant relationships between CCAT results and job performance across various roles.

This supports use of the assessment as one evidence-based selection tool.

It does not mean that:

  • the test predicts every individual outcome perfectly;
  • a high score guarantees high job performance;
  • a low score proves inability;
  • the CCAT should be the only hiring factor;
  • one employer’s cutoff applies universally.

Construct Validity vs. Predictive Validity

Construct Validity

Asks whether the assessment measures the underlying cognitive aptitude construct it is intended to measure.

Predictive Validity

Asks whether scores are associated with future outcomes such as job performance.

These concepts concern the assessment as a measurement tool.

They do not determine whether one candidate’s event was technically valid.

2. Integrity of an Individual Event

A scientifically validated assessment can still produce an event that requires review because of technical interruption, identity concerns, unauthorized assistance, compromised content or other integrity signals. Criteria’s current public AI Proctoring material describes employer-facing reports with flagged incidents and supporting evidence when that feature is configured.

Current public documentation does not provide a candidate formula for predicting whether a CCAT event will be accepted, questioned or replaced. The employer and Criteria support must review the actual event.

Why Recalled Live Questions Create Risk

Using remembered or leaked secure questions can:

  • undermine assessment integrity;
  • create prior familiarity with a version;
  • distort speed and accuracy;
  • lead to an invalid-result warning;
  • violate employer or platform rules.

Preparation should use independently created questions and general methods.

Do not photograph, copy, record, purchase, or distribute secure live content.

Technical Problems and Result Validity

A connection failure, frozen page, or submission error does not automatically prove that the result is valid or invalid.

Record:

  • date and time;
  • Event ID;
  • error message;
  • device and browser;
  • whether the event resumed;
  • whether completion confirmation appeared.

Follow official support instructions.

Do not create a second account or unauthorized replacement event.

Incomplete Submission

Criteria’s candidate FAQ explains that an Event ID can be used to return to the assessment center after an Error submitting test message, where the candidate may be able to submit or resume.

Only the official system can confirm whether the event was received successfully.

3. How Long Is a CCAT Score Valid?

Criteria does not publish one universal candidate-facing validity period that every employer must accept.

An employer may decide whether to:

  • use a recent result;
  • request a new event;
  • accept a previous event within its own system;
  • reject reuse across recruitment campaigns;
  • apply internal data-retention and selection policies.

Do not publish claims such as:

A CCAT score is always valid for six months.

or:

A CCAT score never expires.

without current authoritative policy for the exact employer and event.

Can a Score Be Reused for Another Employer?

Criteria’s candidate FAQ states that results are confidential and only available to the company that administered them. They are not shared with other companies.

Therefore, a previous result is not automatically portable to another employer.

Use the CCAT score-sharing guide.

Can the Same Employer Reuse a Result?

The employer controls its recruitment process.

It may:

  • view an existing event in its platform;
  • request a new assessment;
  • use a different test;
  • apply a new job association;
  • require another authorized event.

Ask the employer rather than assuming.

Does a Valid Result Guarantee a Hiring Decision?

No.

A valid result means the platform has not flagged the event as invalid under its rules.

It does not guarantee:

  • meeting a cutoff;
  • being inside a suggested range;
  • progression;
  • an interview;
  • an offer.

Does a High Score Prove the Test Is Valid for Every Job?

No.

Assessment validity concerns evidence across relevant populations and outcomes.

Employers should choose job-related assessment use and interpret results in context.

Candidates should not infer that one high or low score defines their complete capability.

What to Do if a Result Is Questioned

Do not create another account or start an unauthorized replacement assessment. Contact the employer or recruiter and official Criteria support, preserve the Event ID and any displayed message, and explain technical facts without sending secure questions. Only the authorized parties can decide whether the existing event is retained, reviewed or replaced.

Practice-Test Validity

An independent practice result becomes less representative when:

  • questions are repeated;
  • answers are remembered;
  • a calculator is used;
  • timing is paused;
  • explanations are viewed during the attempt;
  • another person or tool provides help.

Use unseen questions and standard conditions when measuring readiness.
